Center of Interest

Usually a photographer will have a visual center of interest in their photograph, one element that draws the attention of the eye. Usually it is a picture of a specific item, such as a deer. The visual center will also determine the nature of all other side elements in the picture. In most photographs, the visual center is usually in the center of the photograph, as this location is the "prime real estate." The eye is most likely begin looking at the center of the photograph, no matter the composition of the piece.

In the above photograph, the deer is located close to the dead center of the photograph, the "prime real estate." There is beauty with the visual center being in the center of the photograph and there is also beauty with the visual center being offset to one side. The location of the visual center all depends on what the photographer wants the photo to represent. I wasn't trying to represent anything else in the above photograph, hence the reason why I placed the deer in the dead center. If I had wanted to photograph the Douglas Fur and the deer together, then I would have to offset each visual element to a side so one doesn't take over the other one.
